kidsroom lovestory – when two worlds create one rug
Sometimes something emerges that is greater than the sum of its parts. This is exactly what happened with the "kidsroom lovestory" rug – a collaboration between Kim from @friedalovesemil and THE KNOTS.
How the idea came about
It all started with Kim wanting to design her own rug with this drawing – lines that aren't perfect, but look lively precisely because of that. The idea was simple: what happens when you put this handwriting into the hands of Moroccan weavers?
The result is now a rug on the floor – transforming every room it graces.
The design
The motifs of the "kidsroom lovestory" are based on Kim's drawings, inspired by the vibrancy of a child's room. Ice cream, heart, smiley, strawberry – things that bring joy, drawn from feeling. No perfect lines, no symmetry – instead, organic shapes that radiate warmth without appearing playful.
The light natural tones keep the design calm and timeless. A rug that fits in a child's room – but just as well in the living room or bedroom.
The making
Each rug is made in a small family business in the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco, with whom THE KNOTS has been working for years. The wool is washed multiple times, then densely knotted – knot by knot, by hand. The result is a soft, silky pile that feels luxurious and develops its own patina over time.
Each rug is unique – slight variations in design and size are signs of true handcraft, not a defect.
In a real home
What truly showcases a rug is not the product photo – but how it looks in real everyday life. One of our customers sent us these photos. You can see immediately: the rug blends in without trying to conform. It brings color without dominating, character without being too loud.
The Rug
"kidsroom lovestory" is available for pre-order in two sizes – 150x100 cm and 240x160 cm. Since each rug is produced to order, delivery time is approx. 10–14 weeks.
As this is a custom order, the rug is excluded from returns.
