Azilal Berber Carpet

Azilal, the capital of the Moroccan province of the same name, is also the namesake of a type of Berber carpet, the Azilal carpet. This type of carpet is made by mixing raw sheep's wool with cotton or by using cotton primarily. Azilal carpets are woven horizontally and are characterized by a grid pattern and an arrangement of knots. This makes them easy to distinguish from other Berber carpets. The fibers of this authentic carpet are made of quite short wool, which makes it less dense than the Beni Ourain carpet, but still equally soft and cozy.

The production of Azilal carpets, like other Berber carpets, requires a special craftsmanship of Berber women from the Moroccan Amazigh tribes. When designing Berber carpets for personal use, the weavers have the freedom to experiment with shapes and colors, following their ideas and intuition. The artistic and original work of the Amazigh women, clearly visible in the Azilal carpets and their intense colors, gives the family living spaces a special aura and refines the decor in a unique way. Whether used as a decorative wall element or as a floor covering, this Berber carpet will undoubtedly enhance the interior design.

Thanks to its light and soft structure and its cheerful colours, the Azilal carpet is also perfect for a child’s room.
