Wie finde ich den richtigen Teppich für mein Zuhause?

How do I find the right carpet for my home?

For many, their own four walls are an important place. Not only does the home serve as a retreat after a long day, it is also a place where friends and family come together, where memories are made, and where you spend most of your life. Therefore, it is all the more important to feel comfortable in your own home. A carpet can contribute a lot to this feeling. It not only gives the room more warmth and coziness, but often also creates a very individual look in the room. Whether a statement piece or a subtle companion, a rug can transform a room. How to find the right rug for your home, you can read here.

Which rug for which room?
Carpets differ not only by their origin, colors and dimensions, but also by the workmanship of their materials. Unlike Berber and Persian rugs, kilim rugs are woven instead of knotted. As a result, they do not have a pile and are characterized by their smooth surface. For this reason, they are less susceptible to dirt than other carpets and are particularly suitable as a home accessory in the hallway or kitchen. However, they also create a distinctive look in the living room or bedroom, which promises coziness and contributes to well-being.
Vintage carpets are similar. All pieces are hand-knotted. By using a special restoration process, the pile of the carpets was shortened, so they are also characterized by a smooth surface and can be used in a variety of ways.
Unlike the previous two types of carpets, Berber carpets usually have a medium to high pile. So, if you like to feel something warm and soft under your feet, you should get a Berber carpet into your house. A feeling of coziness is guaranteed with it. In addition to the living room and bedroom, Berber rugs are also suitable for the dining room or children's room. Since wool is a very durable material that repels dirt, the carpet can be placed in almost any room without any worries.

What size is right for me?

The size of the carpet plays an important role in the choice of the carpet. A carpet that is too large can make the room look smaller, while a carpet that is too small runs the risk of being lost in the room. However, you always have some leeway when designing the room. Carpets can also be wonderfully used as separating or connecting elements. In a large room, for example, a large carpet can join different areas, while smaller carpets can visually separate individual areas.

Living room

In the living room, the carpet can be used in very different ways. For example, there is a possibility to create a so-called island with the carpet. Here all the furniture such as sofa, table and armchairs are placed on the carpet. Otherwise, the carpet can also be placed directly in the center, positioning the remaining furniture such as sofa and armchair around the carpet. This, in particular, will create more space in the room. As another option, the rug can also be placed under the front half of the furniture, thus creating a connection between each element.

Dining room

When placing a carpet under the dining table, it should be noted that it is in any case longer on all sides than the pieces of furniture located on it. Calculate at least 70 cm excess, so that when you move the chairs do not get over the edge of the carpet.

Bedroom

A carpet can also be used in a variety of ways in the bedroom. For example, the rug can be placed so that ⅓ of the rug is under the bed and the other ⅔ extends beyond the edge of the bed.
Carpets can also be excellent bed rugs so that they frame the bed. Another option is to place the bed directly on the rug. Nevertheless, as in the dining room, a sufficient excess should be taken into account. After all, what purpose does the carpet serve if your feet don't land on a soft surface in the morning?

Hallway

For the hallway, runner carpets are particularly suitable, because they are characterized by their above-average length. At the beginning and end of the hallway should be the same distance between the wall and the carpet, so that the room looks harmonious. In addition, the carpet should be about 15 cm from the wall on the right and left sides. It is also important to allow enough space for opening the door, so that the carpet does not become an obstacle when coming in.

What color suits me?

What color a carpet should be, as a rule, always depends on your own taste. When choosing colors, it is often helpful to look at the overall color palette of the interior and consider which colors harmonize with the rest of the room.
You should also ask yourself what function you want the rug to serve in the room. Should it be a statement piece or does the rug serve more to add calm to the room?
Neutral and light colors are particularly suitable to anchor the room and create a harmonious mood. Contrasting colors, on the other hand, transport dynamism and liveliness into the room.
